The Edval software suite is user friendly, and feature rich.

Our training days are designed to help you make the most of our products, especially new users.

Schools should ideally send at least two people to the three training days: D1, D2 and D3. It is best if this training is started before Term 3.
These days need to be attended in this order, but not within a short time-frame, allowing time to digest the information effectively, and complete online exams to check/help understanding.

The other pages on this site should answer all of your questions about our training in general, and what is covered during each of the different types of days. If you require more information, please contact us at support@edval.com.au.

Please go to our Training Dates page and use the form on the lower part of the page to register your attendance at a listed event. You should also use this form to indicate your interest in training for which there is no current suitable event listed.

D1 Timetable Essentials

This is the first introduction to the Edval timetable software, and covers data entry, as well as a broad understanding of the software. This training promotes confidence and competence in your ability to be able to make timetable changes.

Topics include:

  • Menu overview and shortcut keys

  • Setting up your grid, bell times and different days

  • Managing the school timetable knowledge through data entry screens

  • How to get days off for teachers or put them in one teaching room across the cycle

  • Setting up your classes with the right timetable structure

  • Managing staffing and rooming requests for maximum flexibility

This day is part demonstration, with time for questions, and hands-on activities. A worksheet and sample file are provided to all trainees.
Morning tea and lunch are provided.

One booking per school should be made in the Training Dates page.

D2 Timetable Development

This is the second day of basic training in the Edval timetable software.

It includes the tasks associated with the timetable using the Edval tools and modules.
Topics include:

  • Edval WebChoice

  • Generating elective lines

  • Class list management

  • Playground duties

  • Prepare timetable requirements for construction

This day is part demonstration, with time for questions, and hands-on activities. A worksheet and sample file are provided to all trainees.

There may be time to look at school files individually on this day, so you should bring your own school file with you.

Morning tea and lunch are provided.

One booking per school should be made in the Training Dates page.

D3 Timetable Construction

This is the third day of basic training in the Edval timetable software.

It covers most of the tools and techniques that you will need when constructing a timetable automatically in Edval.
Topics include:

  • Checking for problems before you start

  • Creating a matrix type grid

  • Adding your years one at a time

  • Modifications that solve difficult problems

  • Splitting classes to balance loads

This day starts with demonstrations, question-time and hands-on activities. A worksheet and sample file are provided to all trainees for completion by morning tea. The remainder of the day is focused on individual school files.

It is expected that participants will bring their own school file with them. This file should be at ‘Champagne bottle’ stage; or in the final stages leading up to this where problems exist that you would like help in solving.

This would mean that all new schools should get to start their own 2015 timetable on this day, in the presence of an Edval Consultant who will be able to assist them with any specific issues.

Morning tea and lunch are provided.

One booking per school should be made in the Training Dates page.

Workshops

This is a day with an Edval consultant where you can have your questions answered and help with your own school file. Ideally, this is held with several schools at a time so that you may benefit from having others to talk to as well.

This day would most likely cover advanced timetable construction techniques and advanced fault finding in timetable requirements. It is not part of the basic three day course, but is charged at the same rates, that is, $395 + GST for the first person, and $245 + GST for each subsequent attendee from the same school.

One booking per school should be made in the Training Dates page.

Schools on the full support package may be able to send trainees to this course at no additional charge, but this is explicitly by negotiation with Edval, and provided there is room in the course.

Primary

This is a two day course.

The first day (P1) introduces the Edval timetable software, and covers data entry. This training promotes confidence and competence in your ability to understand the software and edit your timetable requirements.

The second day (P2) includes the tasks associated with the timetable using the Edval tools.
Topics include:

  • Preparing your timetable requirements for construction

  • Constructing your timetable

  • Working on your timetable

  • Class list management

  • Playground duties

Each day is part demonstration, with time for questions, and hands-on activities. A worksheet and sample file are provided to all trainees on both days. There would be time to look at school files individually on both these days, so you should bring your own school file with you.

Morning tea and lunch are provided.

One booking per school should be made in the Training Dates page.

Please use the comments box below for training feedback

    Attendance at D1

After D1, all of the following need to be completed prior to D2:

  • Completion of D1 worksheet. Many people find that re-working the whole worksheet again is very useful to their learning.

  • Submission of training data file with Yr 8 completed.

  • View videos listed in Training Planner given out at D1.

  • Completion of Test Yourself exams listed in Training Planner. Please select -Submit all and finish- each time you go in. You are able to make any number of attempts, and it is not so much your score that we are interested in, but the fact that you have gone in and made a full attempt. The feedback for right and wrong answers is another key aspect of our helping you to learn.

  • Tidying up your own school file with regard to grid, faculty column, subject names, spread requests and subject teacher and room sets.
  • Attendance at D2

After D2, all of the following need to be completed prior to D3:

  • Completion of D2 worksheet

  • View videos listed in Training Planner given out at D1

  • Completion of Test Yourself exams listed in Training Planner

  • Roll over your own school file

  • Do elective lines

  • Prepare your file for 2014 by editing subject teacher data and sets, subject room data and sets, class structure

  • Check the validity of your file using Ctrl-Q
  • Attendance at D3

It is expected that most schools will not be ready for this until Term 4.
From after morning tea onwards, it is expected that we will be working on your own 2014 file
Bring your file with questions ready or having reached the champagne bottle

Two thoughts on “Training

  1. Wow how good is edval now. I have just spent the day with Mary doing an update, should have done this years ago.
So much has changed and has got better and easier.
Well worth the time and cost. I think the savings will come when I timetable this year. Our timetable will be done in half the time.

    John

    1. Thanks, John! It was a good to see you again. And your lovely tidy file meant that we could easily work on the extra features and functionality that you were not yet using, or using fully. I look forward to hearing about how much time you save when you do your 2015 timetable.
      Mary
